The somber, piano-drenched 2016 track “Off the Record 2” proved that he can look beyond some of UK rap’s more salacious and violent narratives to deliver introspective and nuanced storytelling, while the same year’s radio-friendly “Take My Number” mined club romance alongside guest singer Angel. Yungen teamed up with Yxng Bane on 2017’s similarly suave “Bestie,” interpolating the decade-plus-old 50 Cent single “Many Men (Wish Death)” to score platinum sales in Britain. Showcasing his sharp ear for breakout vocalists, the serial collaborator recruited Craig David for 2018’s “Intimate,” amid many other high-profile collabs. That doesn’t mean he can’t still get down and dirty on his own with some proper grime, as heard on 2019’s pointed foray “No Chorus.”
