Raised in Minneapolis, Ali's music combines the influences of golden era east coast voices like Chuck D and Rakim with the emo styles of his Rhymesayers label mates. 2000's Rites of Passage marked his album debut, while 2012's Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color teamed him up with the producer Jake One to take his sound and message in a new direction.
