Death of Sis Draper

Sis Draper had a guitar player named Kentucky Sue

Everywhere Altus played Sue was picking too

She worked her way from town to town fiddling way out west

Everywhere she blew through they said she was the best

They played the dances, played the bars out on the western stars

Sis was getting on and you knew she lived it pretty hard

She burned both ends of the candle and broke many hearts

Out in old New Mexico there was a snowstorm coming on

They decided just to wait it out and play the El Patron

Now there was some old gal with coal

Black eyes she was in a jealous tiff

She was quite sure her old man was slipping around with Sis

She was a waitress at the El Patron out on the edge of town

She poisoned Sis's whiskey and Sis just drank it down

She started to feeling poorly so she laid her fiddle down

Out behind the El Patron they dug a shallow grave

Laid her down beneath that ground

Tears streaming down her face she took it pretty hard

There was somewhere in the distance you could hear the mission bell
