Doing My Best

I was doing my laundry in Butte Montana on the morning of the fourth of July

Me and some buddies sat up on a hill and watched the fireworks fill the sky

We was counting our dollars it didn’t make sense

We didn’t know how we gonna pay our rent

Hell we ain’t broke buddy we just bent

Well its one pretty gal in Tucumcari been a long road and making me weary

Think I’ll sit on down have myself a rest

Just a little drink of water to wet my beak

I told my baby it’s a hell of a week

I ain’t doing no good I’m just doing my best

Flying high down in Texas Sam’s Town Point about 2am it’s a hell of a joint

We just sing a few songs before saying goodbye

Then we’re headed back east a little down south when I get back home I need to watch my mouth

its been good out here but I aint saying shhh
