Preachin' Silas

Silas gets up early before day light

He works all day he but prays all night

Just a preacher boy workin in the mines

Carries his Bible his side

Shovels coal by a carbide light

And he preaches to the men at dinner time

The spirit of God it dwells in him

As he tells of the fire burning within

I’ve been washed and saved by the blood of the lamb

One day I’m going to the promise land

He gets tired and weary from the work he’s in

Until the cool breeze of God blows over him

He said you can’t get to heaven by the works of your hands

And you can’t get to heaven off the riches of this land

You can make it to heaven by the blood of the lamb

He’s coming back like a thief in the night

 You better get ready you better get right

 The blessed savior took my place

And he saved me by his marvelous grace

When I cross over the Jordan wide

The Lord will be standing by my side
