Poetry of Birds

I remember back then

Feeling so confused when

When they tried to tell me I would never win

 

They tried to teach me numbers

Took away my wonder

But you made me fight when I was giving in.

 

There’s something that I need to say to you

And I hope to God that this is getting through

 

And you taught me about everything

How to cover my own feathers in the rain

While the world marched on with all the bombs …you said

Sing every single song until it hurts

And the poetry of the birds

 

I remember flying

Laughing till we’re crying

When we made up games running to the sun

 

They said you were doing magic tricks

They couldn’t see the worth of it

But I knew that they were wrong

 

I hope that everybody has a friend

Takes in all the secrets they could send

 

And you taught me about everything`
