Artist Biography
A longtime producer and arranger for Atlantic, Arif Mardin assisted in the creation of many classic pop and jazz recordings. Mardin's earliest duties focused on jazz artists including Sonny Stitt, Freddie Hubbard, and Eddie Harris, but his stock truly began to rise with Aretha Franklin's "Respect." He went on to work closely with the Rascals, Dusty Springfield, John Prine, Hall & Oates, the Bee Gees, and Chaka Khan, among many others. He led his own albums, Glass Onion (1970) and Journey (1975), as well as All My Friends Are Here (2010), a guest-filled set he was preparing until his 2006 death. ~ Jason Ankeny & Steve Huey
