Artist Biography
The members of Boys Don’t Cry had all variously played with Sad Café, Andy Brown, Jackson Heights, Byzantium and Mike Oldfield. Nick Richards, Brian Chatton, Nico Ramsden, Mark Smith and Jeff Seopardi had first played together in an earlier incarnation of the group known as the Jazz Sluts. With unlimited studio time owing to Richards’ ownership of the Maison Rouge studio, their recording career began in 1983 with ‘Heart’s Bin Broken’. They signed to US label Profile Records in the mid-80s and secured an immediate hit single with ‘I Wanna Be A Cowboy’. With a video featuring Motörhead’s Lemmy, it reached number 12 in the US charts in 1986. Its follow-up, ‘The Cities On Time’, failed to repeat its success. Following one charting album the group then switched labels to Atlantic Records. Subsequent efforts such as ‘Who The Am Dam Do You Think I Am?’ failed to revive their career. The members eventually returned to session work.
