Artist Biography
Taking their name from an old Frank Zappa tune ("Who are the Brain Police"), and their style from â60s psych and â70s hard rock, as synthesized and modernized by the â90s stoner rock movement, Gunnlaugur LĂĄrusson (guitar), HörĂ°ur StefĂĄnsson (bass), and JĂłn Björn RĂkarĂ°sson (drums) formed Brain Police in Reykjavik, Iceland, in 1998. Singer Vagn LevĂ performed on the group's self-produced debut, Glacier Sun, in 2000, but departed shortly after Brain Police contributed a song to an Icelandic film called Ăskabörn Ăjóðarinnar. The remaining trio performed as an instrumental combo for some time before finding a new singer in Jens Ălafsson (ex-Toymachine), who made his debut on 2002's Master Brain EP, and helped Brain Police become one of Iceland's most popular bands following the release of their eponymous second album and its #1 radio hit, "Jacuzzi Suzi" in 2003. Subsequent albums include 2004's Electric Fungus and 2006's Beyond the Wasteland, which introduced new guitarist BĂși Bendtsen, and was reissued by American label Small Stone in January 2008. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia
