Since 1982, regional Mexican band Cardenales de Nuevo León has been one of the most successful and influential groups in norteño music.
∙ They’ve had more than 50 regional hits, scoring 29 singles on the Billboard Regional Mexican Airplay chart across the 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s.
∙ In 1988, La Chuyita became their first Gold-certified album.
∙ After leading a norteño resurgence throughout Mexico and the US, the band played to 60,000 people at 1992's inaugural Norteño International Festival in Phoenix, Arizona.
∙ As a symbolic gesture to the band's signature sound, founding member Cesáreo “Don Chayo” Sánchez had his voice insured during the band's 30th anniversary festivities in 2012.
∙ In 2020, Sánchez handed over his role as band leader to his oldest son, Cesáreo “Chayin” Sánchez, Jr., as the group released their first hit single of the new era, “Lunático.”
∙ Se Renta un Corazón (2009) and La Historia Continúa (2020) were each nominated for Best Norteño Album at the Latin Grammy Awards.
