Artist Biography
Colten Jesse’s sparse folk music emphasizes the Oklahoma bull rider’s reedy voice, which adds extra weight to tales of tough living, like 2020’s “Marlboro Man.”
In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail.
It was AM/FM radio, cassette tapes, CDs and into the digital age. It's the string of pawn shop guitars starting when I was five or so. It was the pianos in both of my grandmothers’ houses and playing saxophone in the junior high band. It's everything.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why?
Sturgill Simpson, A Sailor's Guide to Earth
Watchhouse, Blindfaller
Turnpike Troubadours, Diamonds & Gasoline
I could never choose just three, but if I had to, these would be at the top. I recall listening to all of them for the first time so distinctly. They’re timeless in my opinion, and writers and musicians I'll always look up to.
