Artist Biography
UK rap duo the Demon Boyz comprises Mike J. and Darren (nicknamed Demon due to his ‘Spock-like ears’). An English underground phenomenon, the Demon Boyz rap owed a stylistic debt to reggae, notably on tracks such as ‘Sweet Jamaica’. This was housed on the belated follow-up to their 1989 debut album, which saw them switching to the Rebel MC’s Tribal Bass label. This completed the circle for the duo, who had made their debut performing on the mic at the Rebel’s Broadwater Farm sound system parties. They showed they were in touch with the club scene too by incorporating raps such as the breakbeat-feast, ‘Dett’, and genre-defining single, ‘Jungle-Ist’. Many have acknowledged the manner in which US artists such as Das-EFX have incorporated their ‘wiggedy diggedy’ delivery.
