DMZ (stands for “demilitarized zone”) was one of Boston's earliest punk bands. Led by Jeff “Mono Man” Connolly, who would eventually go on to garage-rock revivalists the Lyres, the band accordingly had a bit more of a garage-rock tinge than many of their contemporaries. In 1977, they released an EP overseen by Ramones producer Craig Leon, and their lone album came the following year, but they splintered soon after, with Connolly bringing the band's rhythm section along with him into the Lyres. DMZ has reunited sporadically over the subsequent decades.
