Artist Biography
The folk rock band Magnetic Zeros was born when Alex Ebert, aka Edward Sharpe, met singer Jade Castrinos outside an L.A. nightclub, and the two began writing songs together.
∙ Sharpe, who originally wanted to be a rapper, grew up listening to Slick Rick, The Pharcyde, and A Tribe Called Quest.
∙ His pre-Magnetic Zeros group Ima Robot included Joey Waronker and Justin Meldal-Johnsen, both of whom had played with Beck.
∙ “Home,” from Up from Below, was covered by Dr. Teeth & The Electric Mayhem during The Muppets’ 2017 Hollywood Bowl performances.
∙ Rolling Stone ranked their sophomore LP, Here, at No. 7 on its 50 Best Albums of 2012 list.
∙ “Brother” was inspired by Ebert’s friendship with actor Heath Ledger, an early supporter of the band.
∙ The Grammy Award-winning 2012 documentary Big Easy Express immortalized their cross-country train tour with Mumford & Sons and Old Crow Medicine Show.
