The king of space-age bachelor pad music.
Artist Biography
Mexican composer/bandleader Juan Garcia Esquivel put out a series of records in the '50s and '60s that earned him a reputation as the Spike Jones of lounge music. Using disparate musical influences (jazz, world music, electronics) and unusual stereo effects, Esquivel created the ultimate in "space age bachelor pad music." Though he was initially popular with the easy listening set, Esquivel enjoyed a comeback in the '90s when exotica became the domain of hipsters, and reissues of his albums enjoyed great popularity. Esquivel died in 2002, but he'd lived long enough to see his music find favor with a new generation.
