Artist Biography
A groove-driven psychedelic combo from Gothenburg, Sweden, Hollow Ship meld the progressive influence of bands like Pink Floyd and King Crimson with funky Afro-pop rhythms and a host of modern sounds. They made their debut in 2020 with the full-length Future Remains LP.
The band grew out of a series of psych-rock improvisations between frontman Thomas Frank and fellow guitarist Vincent Vensal who soon added bassist Johannes Cronquist and drummer Mårten Magnefors to their musical conversation. Having worked out a series of loosely defined jams on-stage together, the fledgling group met up with producer Daniel Johansson at his Gothenburg studio, Welfare Sounds. Johansson's involvement helped shape a new direction for the band with the rhythm section becoming more prominent and modern production techniques fusing with old ones. Not long after completing sessions for their album, Hollow Ship signed with Swedish indie PNKSLM Records and retooled their lineup with Axel Jonsson replacing Vensal on guitar and keyboardist Lisa Kylsberg joining their ranks. Their debut, Future Remains, was released in early 2020. ~ Timothy Monger
