Artist Biography
Fans of the progressive rock know Keith Tippett as a contributor to early albums by King Crimson, while fans of cutting-edge/avant-garde jazz know him from his daring solo recitals and lengthy improvisations with the quartet Mujician. While he got his original training in Dixieland and bebop, Tippett later gravitated towards the mid-1960’s U.K.’s avant/free jazz scene, where he became established as both leader and accompanist. In Britain during the late ‘60s and early ‘70s, there was some overlap between the jazz and rock scenes, and Tippett also recorded with some editions of King Crimson. Aside from the freely-improvising Mujician, Tippett has often collaborated with his wife, Julie (formerly Julie Driscoll, singer with Brian Auger’s Trinity).
