Artist Biography
A soulful British reggae star with a smooth R&B-influenced vocal style, Lloyd Brown began his career in his teens as an MC for Jah Marcus Hi Power sound system. A trip to Jamaica inspired Brown to switch to singing, and he joined the vocal harmony group Sweet Distortion in the early ‘80s. Although the group began to garner accolades from the British reggae fraternity, the group soon imploded and Brown embarked on a solo career. His earliest singles found the singer working in the romantic lovers mode, but later efforts re-staked his popularity among fans of light roots and dancehall. In the ‘00s Brown found success recording reggae versions of pop standards, and versions of Santana’s “Maria Maria” and Craig David’s “Fill Me In” were among his most successful efforts.
