Artist Biography
Mark Johnson (no relation to the bassist Marc Johnson) is a funk-oriented tenor saxophonist whose roots are in R&B rather than jazz. He started on clarinet when he was nine and became a professional musician while a teenager, playing in local funk bands. He attended the Berklee College of Music, appeared on Debra Henson-Conant's Budapest CD, and toured with Special EFX and George Jinda's World News. Mark Johnson recorded several commercial sets as a leader for JVC in the 1990s. ~ Scott Yanow
