Artist Biography
Popular in both the U.K. and his native Jamaica, reggage artist Max Romeo boasts a recording history that goes back to the late 1960s. Romeo sang with a group called the Emotions before enjoying a solo hit in Jamaica and the U.K. with 1968's "Wet Dream." In the '70s Romeo worked with dub producers Bunny Lee, Niney Holeness, and Lee "Scratch" Perry; his albums featured a number of political songs that advocated for the People's National Party of Jamaica. In 1978, Romeo moved to New York City, where he co-wrote the musical REGGAE and continued his recording career, but he returned to Jamaica in 1990s. His notable releases include WAR INNA BABYLON (1976), OPEN THE IRON GATE (1978), and the greatest hits compilation ULTIMATE COLLECTION (2003).
