Artist Biography
Soprano Natalie Dessay first rose to global prominence in 1990, winning first prize at the International Mozart Competition in Vienna. In the years to follow, she made her debuts with the Opéra Bastille, Vienna, Lyons, Aix-en-Provence, Metropolitan, and La Scala opera houses. In addition to numerous opera releases, subsequent solo recordings included 1998's Vocalises and 2007's Italian Opera Arias. After retiring from the opera stage in 2013 while still in her forties, she turned her attention to the Great American Songbook on 2016's Pictures of America, her first English-language album. She is also known for multiple collaborations with composer/songwriter Michael Legrand. Natalie Dessay à l'Opéra, a compilation from her time on stage, was issued in 2021.
