Artist Biography
A popular folk singer and guitarist in Canada, Omar Blondahl was born in 1923 in Wynyard, Saskatchewan. He was introduced to music early in life and took both violin and piano lessons during his childhood. He also went on to study voice to complete his musical training. He started his professional career in country music, instead of the rich folk genre that he would switch to after moving to Newfoundland in his '30s. Blondahl recorded a number of folk albums in the '60s and '70s, showcasing embraced Newfoundland folk numbers. Some of the tracks fans can sample on his recordings include "The Ship that Never Returned," "Lester Chaney and the Polar Bears," "Mother Carey," "Lawrence Whelan Falls in the Brine," and "The Southern Cross." ~ Charlotte Dillon
