Artist Biography
Royce da 5’9 is the stage name of Ryan Montgomery, an American rapper known for his collaborations with Eminem, Slaughterhouse, and DJ Premier, as well as for his solo work.
∙ Influenced by the music of Ras Kass, Redman, and Detroit’s Most Wanted, he began rapping when he was 18.
∙ His first big break came in 1999, when he was featured on “Bad Meets Evil,” a track from fellow Detroit rapper Eminem’s The Slim Shady LP.
∙ Royce was the featured rapper on Willa Ford’s 2001 hit “I Wanna Be Bad,” which reached No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100.
∙ In 2002, his first album, Rock City, climbed to No. 29 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop chart.
∙ Hell: The Sequel—his 2011 collaboration with Eminem as the duo Bad Meets Evil—hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and sold more than a million copies.
∙ The Allegory, from 2020, received a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album.
