Artist Biography
Emma Niblett ("Scout" is taken from TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD) was nearly 30 years old before releasing her debut, SWEET HEART FEVER, in 2001. Her sound--a mixture of angst, beguiling beauty, and minimalist composition--indicated that she had clearly absorbed the strained vocals of Kurt Cobain as well as the avant-indie rock of Sonic Youth, among other influences. Four more intimate albums emerged between 2002 and 2007, Niblett’s lo-fi sound unwavering in its minimalist production and bent arrangements. Known for her audience-shy lives shows (much like Catpower) and a somewhat mysterious public persona, the native Englander nevertheless continues to write and perform.
