Artist Biography
Sola Rosa is the project of New Zealand musician Andrew Spraggon whose creative mix of funk, hip-hop, electronic, jazz, Latin, and soul has spanned numerous recordings and ensembles since launching in 1999. Spraggon's 4-track home recordings eventually landed him a deal with Festival Mushroom Records, which issued early Sola Rosa highlights like the Entrance to Skyway EP (2000) and the band's debut album, Solarized (2001), which won the inaugural Best Electronica Album Award at the New Zealand Music Awards. Over the next decade, Spraggon and his various collaborators toured the world and released a bevy of EPs, singles, and four studio albums including 2009's hit Get It Together, which spawned its own remix album. As the project continued to evolve, 2012's Low and Behold, High and Beyond eschewed some of Spraggon's early Latin and reggae tendencies and focused more on his hip-hop and neo-soul influences. 2014's Magnetics, Sola Rosa's sixth full-length, featured vocal collaborations from soul singer Jill Scott and former Streets vocalist Kevin Mark Trail, among others. Trail made another appearance on the 2016 single "So Fly," which was followed in 2017 another single, "Back to You," featuring Kiwi-born soul singer Noah Slee. ~ Timothy Monger
