Artist Biography
With Joan Wasser on violin and often quirky subject matter (including an attempt to compose odes to all 50 states), Boston's Dambuilders were never typical 1990s indie rockers. While the four-member outfit's fiery mix of power pop, post-punk, avant-garde jazz, and seemingly whatever popped into their heads on a given day infuriated their record label, it delighted a core audience of fans over the course of three full-lengths (and a seemingly infinite reservoir of EPs and seven-inches). The band had broken up by 1998, but each member carved a niche on the rock landscape--most significantly Wasser, who earned critical raves in the late '00s as a jazz-laced indie crooner under the moniker Joan as Police Woman.
