Artist Biography
Originally, this Canadian group was called the Blue Meanies, until they found they shared the name with the Chicago ska group and many other bands around the world. The band then traded in the "blue" for "new" and officially became the New Meanies while recording their first album in California. The blues-rock (considerably more rock) band started off in 1993 and consists of Sky Onosson (bass), Jeff Hondubura (guitar), Jason Kane (drums), and Damon Mitchell (vocals/guitar). Though the band wasn't a household name, they still managed to tour with the likes of Deep Purple, the Dave Matthew's Band, and Alice Cooper.
Their first album, Experience Is Lost, was recorded independently, while their second album, Three Seeds, saw the band in a deal with Virgin Records. Displeased with the actions and scene that surround a major label, the group parted ways with Virgin, their manager and booking agent in 1999. On their own again, and with out the promotion of the major label, the band recorded their third album, Highways, for their own label, MeanMusic. Due to a leave of absence to teach English in South Korea for a year, Onosson was replaced by Paul Wright on bass. Highways was supported by local touring in Winnipeg, Canada, and the United States. ~ Diana Potts
