Artist Biography
No survey of bubblegum music would be complete without two of Tommy Roe's classics: "Sheila" and "Dizzy," both of which fizz with infectious hooks and Roe's charismatic singing, and enjoyed extended residences at number one on the Billboard charts in 1962 and 1969, respectively. The Georgia-born Roe had four other hit singles between those two (including the wonderful "Sweet Pea"), and also took some time in the mid '60s to record two trippy, introspective albums before returning to his clean-cut pop-idol image just before that look becoming passe. Although Roe never revisited the success he had in the '60s, he continued to write, record, and perform for decades to come, remaining something of a cult/pop icon.
