Artist Biography
During the 1950s while Cuban bolero was taking over Latin America with songs performed by Lucho Gatica, Pedro Vargas, and Leo Marini among other popular artists, three Dominican musicians were captivating people from rural areas with a new style known as perico ripiao. Singer/accordionist Pedro Reynoso, percussionist Francisco Esquea (aka Pancholo), and singer and güira player Domingo Reynoso laid the foundations of a new local mainstream called bachata-merengue. ~ Drago Bonacich
