Artist Biography
With a flurry of jagged indie guitars and minor chords matching its lyrics, twisted primal screams of the soul, Washington, D.C.'s Tsunami, led by the irrepressible Jenny Toomey and the unfaltering Kristin Thompson, swiftly became a sensation in the college music scene. In 1990, the pair started Simple Machines Records in the indie rock-D.I.Y. spirit, to secure an outlet for their band’s records. It was four years before Tsunami put out its debut full-length, but DEEP END, and its follow-up, THE HEART’S TREMELO, were instant indie-rock classics. After a third critically hailed release in 1997 came silence; they shut the doors on Simple Machines the following year. While Tsunami has never officially broken up, the group makes only sporadic live appearances, usually in support of political causes.
