Our story so far…
Since starting out in 2002, we at Shazam have become the world's leading mobile music discovery provider - embedded in tens of millions of handsets worldwide - enabling consumers to experience and share music with others across mobile devices and the internet.
From the launch of our first mobile-specific service, to help music lovers discover new music seven years ago, Shazam comes of age and moves beyond music discovery by creating a new way for users to connect to each other through their music tastes and preferences.
With over 50 million customers using Shazam and live in more than 150 countries, Shazam has become a global phenomenon.
Grown into an established business, but retained our start-up approach to our work ethic: we believe in creating a magical experience and are passionate about developing innovative products and services.
The launch pad to our success has been our core music recognition technology that enables anyone with a mobile phone to identify music that is playing - even under noisy conditions - wherever they are, simply by Shazaming it.
This clip is run through our database of over 8 million tracks (which extends back to the '50s) to find an exact fingerprint match.
Shazam is now used in a variety of ways: callers can use it to discover new music and get information about something they haven't heard before, search for a specific interest, buy a range of music products or simply used as a way of remembering what's playing so that they can buy it later, or just to create a collection and even pass it on to friends and family.
Shazam supports most of today's platforms: Android, BlackBerry, BREW, iPhone, J2ME, Symbian and Windows Phone,.
Shazam Entertainment is a privately held company headquartered in London.
