As one of the earliest vocalists in amapiano, Sha Sha brought her distinct R&B stylings to the genre, which had been dominantly instrumental up until the late 2010s. From 2018, she created magic with South African dance music powerhouse DJ Maphorisa, who signed her to his BlaqBoy Music imprint. After her notable contribution to Samthing Soweto’s 2019 hit “Akulaleki,” produced by DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small, in 2019, she released her debut EP Blossom, from which came singles such as “Tender Love” and “Abondaba,” a soothing duet with Samthing Soweto. Sha Sha’s list of collaborators is extensive; it includes more amapiano pioneers such as MFR Souls, Kamo Mphela, and Mas Musiq. “Nge Thanda Wena”—a pop-EDM duet with fellow BlaqBoy Music alum Mlindo The Vocalist—proves the versatility of Sha Sha’s voice.
