Mentored by ‘80s hip-hop trailblazer Marley Marl, Bronx producer Pete Rock became one of the first great beatmakers of the ‘90s. In partnership with rapper C.L. Smooth, he created classics like the jazzy, emotional “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.).” Rock's cracking drums and stuttering vocal samples helped launch Nas' career and drove Run-DMC's 1993 comeback, “Down With the King.”
