Miami rapper Trick Daddy emerged in the late ‘90s with a sound that tempered a confrontational style with revealing moments of hard-won, reflective wisdom. His pugnacious side is evident on the bass-heavy bounce of "Shut Up," thanks to a stomping, brass-driven beat that channels the huge sound of a down-South marching band. He directs that same energy to cheerier ends, as on the boisterous, KC and the Sunshine Band-sampling party-starter "Take It to Da House." By the time of 2002's sparkling summertime soundtrack "In Da Wind," he'd mellowed out a bit, looking back on his humble beginnings.
