Maria Rita's auspicious 2003 debut satisfied the promise inherent in being the daughter of MPB legend Elis Regina, whom she barely knew. Rita is jazzier than her mother, and her bossa nova and samba tunes have the sleek grace of a Brazilian Norah Jones. Her first album, "Cara Valente" (Brave Face), announced a fine voice; she then explored new ground with "Coração em Desalinho," a highlight of Elo, a 2011 album dedicated to sublime sambas. In 2012, her swinging live version of the bossa standard "Águas de Março" put her own stamp on her mother's repertoire.
