There’s always been an almost tangible sense of freedom when it comes to Brazil’s brand of psychedelic music. And there’s good reason, as the genre originated in the 1960s and ’70s as a response to life under military dictatorship. However, the movement has only kept on growing over the decades since. Driving, feedback-drenched riffs and chugging rhythms meet the trippy effects of Tropicália artists like Os Mutantes and Gilberto Gil and more hazy, romantic and groovy tunes such as Sidney Miller’s “Cicatrizes” for a blend of unexpected sonic twists and turns.
