Led by singer Vaughn Benjamin and his bassist/keyboardist brother Ron, St. Croix's Midnite are at the forefront of reggae's roots revival movement. Inspired by early masters like Bob Marley, Flabba Holt, and The Abyssinians, Benjamin follows the Rastafarian faith. Midnite favor an old-school recording approach with a live band and no extensive remixing. Their 1997 debut Unpolished was released during the band's brief relocation to Washington, D.C. Midnite still make frequent U.S. tours and their live shows, which can top three hours, have endeared them to the collegiate jam-band crowd.
