The Full-Custom Gospel Sounds of the Reverend Horton Heat
Album · Alternative · 1993
An unholy storm of R&B, punk, surf, and country, The Full-Custom Gospel Sounds Of was the most demented and entertaining party album of its era. At a time when the rock world was mostly preoccupied with the dour rock of Pearl Jam and Nirvana, songs like “Wiggle Stick,” “Beer:30,” and “Nurture My Pig” reminded listeners that rock 'n' roll could be both kooky and killer. The themes here run toward sex, intoxication, Satanism, and other forms of illicit amusement, but the band are so light on their feet that their provocations seem merry rather than domineering.
