Singer/songwriter Julia Jacklin crafts a seamless meld of dreamy indie pop, tense indie rock, and confessional alt-country that evokes names like Angel Olsen, Sharon Van Etten, and Caitlin Rose. Her first album, 2016's Don't Let the Kids Win, reached the Top 50 in her native Australia. Three years later, she went all the way to number eight with the follow-up, the breakup-themed Crushing. Written on a Roland keyboard instead of guitar, her third album, 2022's PRE PLEASURE, featured more expansive arrangements including appearances by a full orchestra. She took a more back-to-basics approach for 2026's The Gem, which she recorded with a band in a converted studio upstairs from a pub in her base of Melbourne.
