Japanese alt-pop sensation Fujii Kaze has made a name for himself worldwide thanks to his deeply felt, cathartic songs. The artist, born in Satoshō, Okayama, in 1997, began uploading cover tunes as a teenager, building chops by following the blueprint of his favorite artists and quickly began forging the style he’s now known for. He fuses traditional Japanese kayōkyoku-pop sounds with trap beats and hints of jazz. Fujii Kaze first found mainstream notoriety with 2020 track “Shinunoga E-Wa,” which was featured on his Universal debut, HELP EVER HURT NEVER. The track fuses loungey jazz piano with 808s and digital handclaps. Fujii Kaze flips back and forth between English and Japanese, which he also does on his powerful 2024 ballad, “Michi Teyu Ku (Overflowing),” a track that soundtracks Japanese feature film April come she will.
