Sunshiny and gimlet-eyed in musical spirit, but masking the indie pop neuroses in its intricate folds, Sweden’s Marching Band’s music evokes a lovers’ park stroll, breezy, brimming with both summer’s hope and winter’s discontent. The duo of Erik Sunbring and Jacob Lind truck in Simon & Garfunkel pop-folk for the post-Shins world, creating a world of shimmering angst encased in gentle charm and acoustic guitars gaily adorned with an Elephant 6-style majesty. Marching Band coaxes an incredibly vibrant sound out of its scant membership, often employing banjo, vibraphone and many other instruments not generally indigenous to the indie pop world.
