Henry Laufer, more commonly known as Shlohmo, wears many hats. At any one time, he’s an experimental composer, electronic pioneer, label boss, and go-to producer for stars like Post Malone, Lil Yachty, Yung Lean, and others. Born in Los Angeles in 1990, Shlomo began releasing lo-fi beat tapes before crafting ambient club jams that split the difference between the ethereal mystery of Burial and the joyful chaos of Aphex Twin on albums like 2011’s Bad Vibes and 2015’s Dark Red. Songs like “Places” from the former LP showcase Shlomo's deft ability to turn sample fragments into a patchwork quilt of warm beat music that is equally inspired by Flying Lotus and D’Angelo. As a producer, Shlohmo brought his electronic-leaning productions to Post Malone’s 2015 banger “Boy Bandz” and witch-house trio Salem’s 2020 track “Red River,” infiltrating various strains of pop music with his one-of-a-kind point of view.
