Artist Biography
Austin, Texas, native Shakey Graves is a lifelong performer (and occasional actor) who has found success with his unique strain of blues, folk, and rock.
∙ Born Alejandro Rose-Garcia, his first creative passion was acting, which led to a role in the film Sky Kids 3-D: Game Over and a recurring spot in the TV series Friday Night Lights.
∙ In 2011, he was tapped as the “official busker” for the Railroad Revival Tour—featuring Mumford & Sons and Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros—playing for guests as they entered each venue.
∙ Austin mayor Lee Leffingwell declared February 9, 2012 to be Shakey Graves Day.
∙ “Dearly Departed,” a collaboration with Esmé Patterson from Graves’ 2014 LP, And the War Came, was his first bona fide hit, reaching No. 5 on Billboard’s Triple A Songs chart.
∙ Graves was named Emerging Artist of the Year at the 2015 Americana Music Honors & Awards.
∙ His 2018 full-length LP, Can’t Wake Up, peaked at No. 9 on Billboard’s Americana/Folk Albums chart.
