“Being able to just be happy to do what you’re doing and be happy looking forward to what you’re about to do, it requires a certain amount of willingness to throw yourself into the deep end,” Turnstile’s lead vocalist Brendan Yates tells Apple Music—a clear representation of the Baltimore-based hardcore band’s ethos. After years of grinding—the original lineup formed in 2010—the group broke through in the loudest way possible with 2021’s GLOW ON, and continued their genre-expansion with NEVER ENOUGH in 2025. With their stylistic choices and pivots (A blend of metal with screamo vocals and punk drums here! Midtempo anthems there!), Turnstile— which consists of Yates (lead vocals, keyboards, percussion), Franz Lyons (bass, percussion, vocals), Pat McCrory (lead guitar and backing vocals), Daniel Fang (drums), and Meg Mills (guitar)—pushes the boundaries of hardcore, bringing its origins into the limelight. Unafraid to take risks musically, Yates adds, “We just love venturing into uncharted territory because I think it’s what keeps things feeling alive.”
Members of Turnstile include, or have included, Daniel Fang, Brendan Yates, Pat McCrory, and Franz Lyons.
