In 2011, contemporary Christian pop band I AM THEY placed first in the Spirit West Coast Festival’s talent competition, winning a recording session with producer Billy Smiley and a record deal. ∙ The Carson City, Nevada, group gained national recognition on 2015’s Rock & Worship Roadshow, which featured CCM stars MercyMe, Crowder, and Jamie Grace. ∙ I AM THEY were nominated for the 2015 New Artist of the Year Dove Award. ∙ Produced by Jason Ingram (Lauren Daigle, Chris Tomlin), their folky, self-titled 2015 debut reached the Top 10 on Billboard’s Christian Albums chart. ∙ Their wistful ballad “Scars,” from 2019, has become their most popular song, garnering more than 18 million streams.
