Frontman Enon Kawatani formed Japanese indie rockers gesunokiwamiotome with members of different bands from the live music scene in Tokyo’s Shimokitazawa neighborhood.
∙ In 2013, the quartet became the regular DJs on the J-Wave radio show The Kings Place.
∙ On “Killer Ball,” their 2013 hit single, Kawatani mixed in part of Frédéric Chopin’s piano piece Fantaisie-Impromptu as a break from the beat.
∙ Commissioned as the theme song for the TV drama Arasā-chan Mushūsei, their 2014 single “Ryōkiteki na Kiss o Watashi ni Shite” was certified Gold.
∙ Since 2014, three of their albums have reached the Top 5 on the Japanese charts, with 2016’s Ryōseibai rising to No. 1.
∙ In March 2015, gesunokiwamiotome played their first headlining shows at the Nippon Budokan arena.
∙ They won Best Artist at the 2015 CD Shop Awards on the strength of their debut album, Miryoku ga Sugoi yo, and third EP, Minna Normal.
