Anna Shoemaker makes tuneful alt-pop with confessional pathos and subtle wit. Originally from Philadelphia, she made her name in the indie pop underground of late-2010s New York, where she recorded for a handful of labels before becoming a staple of the +1 Records roster. Shoemaker's 2018 EP, East Side, was an early showcase of her talents as a songwriter, and subsequent releases like Everything Is Fine (I'm Only On Fire) and Hey Anna, built on its success, but it was her 2025 breakup album, Someone Should Stop Her, that became her breakthrough. Its critical success led to a period of personal growth and a creative renaissance reflected in her third album, 2026's Back to Pennsylvania.
