About John Medeski
Classically trained at an early age but with an ear for innovative sounds all over the map, John Medeski naturally gravitated towards the New York City scene. In 1992, the keyboardist (who took a shine to the Hammond B-3 organ) teamed up with percussionist Billy Martin and bassist Chris Wood to form Medeski, Martin & Wood, an avant-garde-meets-the-accessible trio who achieved an extraordinary level of crossover success throughout the 1990s, particularly amongst the jam band set. As a solo artist, Medeski has earned a reputation as a casually selective collaborator whose unique sound lends an unearthly element to all it touches.
