D-Nice secured his place in music history as a member of Boogie Down Productions, the venerable hip-hop group featuring mentor Scott La Rock and KRS-One. Repurposing his verses from the early BDP track "D-Nice Rocks the House," the DJ, producer, and rapper scored an indisputable rap classic of his own with the suave, funky, and self-produced "Call Me D-Nice" (1990), a Top 20 hit on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart that was soon swiped for Ice Cube's "Jackin' for Beats." After two albums for Jive and assorted side work with production, remixing, and featured appearances, D-Nice became known as a highly sought-after photographer and DJ. He returned to the studio in 2021 and released a pair of singles, "No Plans for Love" featuring Ne-Yo and "Rather Be" featuring Kiana Lede, ahead of the arrival of a new full-length effort. ~ Andy Kellman
