About Garbage
Before forming alt-rock group Garbage, drummer and producer Butch Vig had already produced Nirvana’s Nevermind and Smashing Pumpkins’ Gish. Guitarist and keyboardist Steve Marker discovered Scottish singer Shirley Manson after spotting her in a music video with her band Angelfish on MTV’s 120 Minutes, leading to her recruitment and Garbage's official formation. They broke through in 1995 with their self-titled debut, which featured hits “Stupid Girl” and “Only Happy When it Rains,” and returned with Version 2.0 in 1998. The next year, they recording the theme song for the James Bond film The World is Not Enough. Following the band’s extended hiatus after 2005’s Bleed Like Me, Manson expanded her creative reach into acting, portraying a shape-shifting killer android on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles in 2008. After reuniting in 2010, they released 2012’s Not Your Kind of People, making new albums every few years to follow. Where 2021’s No Gods No Masters surveyed the wreckage of a world mired in chaos, 2025’s Let All That We Imagine Be the Light had a more optimistic outlook.
